In a two hour special, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders look back over seven decades of comedy from and by the world’s funniest women – everything is here, from Lucille Ball’s ground breaking sitcom in the 1950s to Hannah Gadsby’s era-defining specials on Netflix in the present day. From their unique professional perspectives, Dawn and Jennifer analyse what qualities made the influential women who moved comedy on in each decade so significant, and offer their own critiques on what made the work these performers did so special.

 

The programme features meticulously curated archive material from some of the comedy’s legendary female practitioners including Victoria Wood, Julie Walters, Sarah Millican, Miranda Hart, Ruth Jones, Joan Rivers, Roseanne Barr, Hylda Baker, Jo Brand and Caroline Aherne, among others.
